The Porter and the Three Ladies

A young porter had been in the market, earning his usual wage by carrying goods for the wealthy shoppers. On a hazy sunny evening, he had the fortune to be employed by a most striking woman. She was much older than he and carried herself with such distinction.

Maybe it was the evening air, or maybe the young porter’s incessant questioning, but the lady invited the porter in to her house. “I am having a feast with my sisters. If you help me set out the food, you can take a sip of wine.” The porter nearly fell over. Him? Invited into such a fine house? By such an impressive woman? Well, he wasn’t going to say no.

He was overenthusiastic and had no idea how to hold himself in such company but, the sisters found him funny, so they decided to give him more wine. Their house was grand, the sisters beautiful, wise and funny. Rich tapestries adorned the walls, deep soft rugs acted as beds for two fine white hounds, the food was sumptuous, rich and sweet. He sampled almonds, figs, flatbreads, olive oil, pastries and earthy wine, all which he was generally never allowed to try! Soon they were all deep in conversation, when suddenly there was a knock at the door.

Who can it be?

Who else will find themselves invited in to this sumptuous feast?

What secrets will the wine prise from this unlikely group?

You will have to wait til tomorrow night…
